Coming probably from China, apricot trees, yielding drupes of yellow to orange colour, are frequently grown in warm and sunny areas of the Czech Republic, mostly in southern Moravia. Apricots are harvested in July and August, some even from mid-June, depending on species. The most frequent one being
Velkopavlovická
(its name derived from winemaking region around Velké Pavlovice municipality), which yields big-size good-quality fruit. Found in a wide range of meals, mainly in desserts such as pies and cakes, apricots can also be an ingredient for rabbit meat or an original filling for chicken or pork schnitzel. Apricot delicacies can be tasted in Czech Specials certified restaurant in Pec pod Sněžkou
hotelu Horizont
, where they will be served during the last two weekends of July – offering thus a great possibility of combining a trip in beautiful Giant Mountains (
Krkonoše
) with apricot refreshment in a good restaurant afterwards.
