  • According to autumn tradition, Czech and Moravian ponds yield their harvest, providing every year hundreds of tons of fish. Obviously, this year will be no different. Pond harvesting is always an important event both for fishermen and for general public, offering at the same time interesting experience for children as well as for adults. Participants might learn something about fishing, admire fishermen’s well-coordinated work during the harvest with their nets full of different kinds of fish, while having the possibility of tasting a wide range of fish specialties prepared on the spot. In October, a number of large ponds are being fished out, including the largest one in the Czech Republic, the Rožmberk Pond in Třeboňsko Region, its fish harvest with accompanying programme scheduled from Friday 10 October until Sunday 12 October. A few days earlier, between 6 and 8 October, you might take part in the Ponědražský Pond fish harvest close to Lomnice nad Lužnicí municipality and taste some of fish delicacies offered right at the pond dam. During the weekend of 25 and 26 October, Moravian Karst will host popular folk fair, organized to accompany the Olšovec Pond fish harvest close to Jedovnice municipality. On 27 and 28 October, South Bohemian Hluboká nad Vltavou municipality will organize the Munický Pond fish harvest, offering the possibility of visiting Ohrada zoo located on the southern side of the pond.
