  • Loštice, central Moravian town in Haná region, renowned especially for the production of a special type of smelly cheese “Olomoucky tvaruzek”, will host already 19th year of annual festival dedicated to music and this typical cheese. Known as “Under the Heaven of Loštice” (Pod Loštickým nebem), the event will take place from Friday 27 June till Sunday 29 June and presents interesting programme both for those fond of brass band music and for gourmets. Special “Tvaruzek Sweetshop” offers unique delicacies made with this low-fat maturing cheese, such as salty kremrole (foam rollers) filled with tvaruzek as well as other pastries, cakes or langos.

    This special smelly cheese has been associated with local Haná region since the 15th century. Produced most frequently in villages around local metropolis Olomouc, the cheese got the name of this city – Olomoucky tvaruzek, which has now been registered as protected geographical indication. Since 1876, tvaruzek has been produced in Loštice, located on the northwest of Olomouc. The upcoming feast is by no means a must visit for or lovers of the typical smell and sharp taste of this cheese.
