  • Nearly all families have favourite recipes or less common varieties of traditional desserts and transmit them from generation to generation. Below you will find tips for two great desserts – perhaps one of them will become part of your family treasure. Try preparing delicious žemlovka (bread pie) made of fresh strawberries – now in season – or a great and juicy crumble cake made of quark.

    Non-traditional žemlovka (bread pie)
First of all, prepare strawberry mousse. Put 100 ml cream (33% fat), 20 g butter and pieces of white chocolate (about 25 g) in a small casserole and heat, then add 45 g of strawberries, cut in small pieces. Boil shortly and then mix and let cool down. In a bowl, mix egg yolk with one or two spoons of honey, 150 g soft quark and 20 g grated coconut. Heat 100 ml milk and add one tablespoon of butter. Put loaves of toast bread in the lukewarm milk and spread them on the bottom of a baking bowl, greased. On the bread, spread half of the quark mixture and strawberries cut in long pieces – continue this way and finish with the bread layer. On top, prepare beaten egg whites and sugar syrup (boiled 2 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons water). Then bake 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven at 170 °C. Serve with the strawberry mousse, cooled in the fridge.

    Quark Wonder with Crumble
The following recipe demonstrates that even few ingredients used in a simple recipe can result in a delicacy that will be eaten in a while. Let’s start with preparing the crumble: mix 1 cup of fine wheat flour, half cup of powder sugar, half packet of baking powder and 100 g butter. Spread about three quarters of the crumble at the bottom of the mould (covered with baking paper). To prepare the filling, mix 500 g soft quark (in cubes), 150 g forest fruit (possibly frozen), 1 jar of sour cream, 300 ml milk, half cup of powder sugar, one packet of vanilla sugar and vanilla pudding. Mix all the ingredients and spread the mixture on the crumble, then sprinkle with the rest of the crumble. Bake about 45 minutes in the oven preheated at 180 °C.

When ready, the desserts can be eaten with a cup of coffee, and you can enjoy their charming taste in every bite.
