Pilsen Appetite Festival was attended by more than 20 thousand visitors. Despite rain and cold weather, gourmets from the region did not miss the chance to visit the festival and taste real culinary specialties. And this year again, the event invited top Czech chefs, including Zdeněk Pohlreich, Roman Paulus and Dalibor Navrátil.
Second Food Cup Czech Specials for 2014
The next regional round of 2014 Food Cup Czech Specials took place on Saturday, 17 May. Veronika KOKO Kokešová, 2013 FOODblogger, presented both the Project, as well as the restaurants with Czech Specials certification: the second regional round involved three participating restaurants. Their task was to prepare a main dish using an important regional ingredient – Pilsner beer. Each participant took a different approach, offering to the jury and visitors beer-stew meat or a beer-dough fried apples dessert.
The Jury, composed of representatives from the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants, the Czech Association of Cooks and Confectioners and the CzechTourism Agency, evaluated visual aspect of the meal, its originality, treatment of the regional ingredient and, last but not least, the taste. In the end, the winners are chefs from Švejk Restaurant U Pětatřicátníků , being already second restaurant advancing to the grand finale that will take place in September under the International Cooks Day in Prague.
Order decided by the Jury:
1) Švejk Restaurant U Pětatřicátníků
Competition Meal: Sous-vide glazed pork flank and tenderloin, sweet onion confit, potato cake
2) U Salzmannů Restaurant
Competition Meal: Striploin slowly stewed with Master 18 Beer Special, cauliflower purée, “hairy” dumplings and finely roasted vegetable
3) Stará Sladovna Restaurant
Competition Meal: Hot apples fried in beer dough
In addition, visitors of the Festival got also the chance to evaluate the competition meals, their winner being
